“14 years of vanvas” reminds you of lord Rama right? Most of us get goosebumps even at the thought of leaving our home, and especially our parents for a few years. However, think about “Rin Takahata” a son who stayed away from his father ‘Sukhpal Singh’ for 19 long years, and not cities or states but countries apart. Rin met his father after long years of wait, when he came to Punjab from Japan during Rakshabandhan.
Rin Takahata and Sukhpal Singh Father-Son Love Story
We have often seen our fathers standing strong, hiding all their emotional turmoil. However, these strong pillars also lose their control when it comes to their children. Such was the case with “Sukhpal Singh”, father of Rin. According to a video shared by the BBC, the father son duo broke into tears when they hugged each other, after long years of waiting, and the father said, “This looks like a dream and I wish this dream never ends.”
According to the information provided Rin was just two years old when his parents parted ways, and his father moved to Amritsar, India in 2007, after which he had no contact with his son.
Rin and the quest to find his father
It’s very common for schools to give assignments to the children about family trees, but the school authorities never realise how difficult it is for the kids to make these trees, when they do not have a parent with them, the emotional rollercoaster is inexplicable. The same was the case with Rin, as he said, “while making family trees I used to realise I was the only one alone, unaware of anything about my father, except his name.”
For Rin, the quest to find his father was difficult as he had to find his father’s pictures, use Google maps to find his location and he was still not sure if his efforts would be worth it. However, with god’s grace he could meet his father in the first attempt, which seemed like a dream come true. He and his father, visited the famous Sri Darbar Sahib, as a token to thank god.
I am sure our readers must be confused, how did an Indian man meet a Japanese lady right?
Rin Parents’ Love Story (Mr. Sukhpal and Sachea Takahata)
Well, the love story of Rin’s parents is no less than that of a Bollywood movie. Mr. Sukhpal met Sachea Takahata( Rin’s mother) at Thailand airport while she was going to India to see the Tajmahal. So, he offered her a chance to view the wagah border and the golden temple together, if she was interested. The duo came to Amritsar together, visited the Swarn Mandir and the lady stayed with Sukhpal’s family for 15-20 days.
After the lady returned to Japan, she sent the sponsorship papers to Mr. Sukhpal and finally it was in 2002 that he visited Japan for the first time where the duo got married. They gave birth to Rin in 2003, and the duo being young adults wasn’t mature enough to understand their responsibilities which made the bond weak. Mr. Sukhpal returned to India in 2003, but was taken back to Japan by his wife. However, until 2004 things didn’t seem to work out and the duo chose to separate and this also led to the heart wrenching separation of the father-son duo.

Phir Aayi Hasseen Dillruba:12 dialogues filled with betrayal
It’s rightly said, where there’s a way. The same happened with Mr. Sukhpal Singh and his son, and after constant efforts the duo finally united. With Rin’s coming to India he not only got back his father, but also a younger sister and a beautiful family that accepted him wholeheartedly. This rakshabandhan, Avleen ( Mr. Sukhpal’s daughter) got a brother and she was very happy about it. This meeting was something anyone wouldn’t have even imagined of, but definitely an overwhelmingly happy ending.
